The First Guinness World Record achieved by Bauhinia Junior Chamber, the Originator
On June 17, 2001, Bauhinia Junior Chamber (BJC) achieved the first Guinness World Record and became the first Local Organization Member (LOM) in Hong Kong who initiated and set such highly recognized record. A theme project “Women’s Health, Fitness & Wealth” 「女性身心多面睇」was organized in two phases.
-
In Phase I “Physical Exercise for Women’s Health”「活力展’身’姿」, a total of 840 participants from different local women organizations joined the Para Para Dance enthusiastically under the smiling sun. Through the setting of new Guinness World Record for “Largest Para Para Dance”, BJC aimed to arouse women’s concerns in keeping a healthy and balance life by practicing physical exercise.
-
In Phase II “Research on Women’s Mental Health”「健康從’心’開始」, BJC announced the findings from a serious survey supported by professionals during a seminar regarding stress management so as to call for the attention of the general public to concern about women’s health in contributing a coherent and harmonious living style.
This meaningful event was greatly supported by the Honorary Patron of the event Mrs Betty Tung, the First Lady of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Guests of Honour and also the Witnesses of world record-setting, the Honorary Mrs Rita Fan, President of Legislative Council; Dr Susan Chan, Deputy Director of Hospital Authority 2001; Mrs Vivien Fung, Vice President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong 2001.
The success of the project highly depended on the enormous support and participation from four government departments, nearly 90 sponsors and supporting organizations, and over 2,500 participants in the two phases.
The Organizing Committee learnt a lot from this project and the most important lesson they went through together was:
Dare to be a dream maker and have courage to make attempts;
Be generous to share good ideas, persist in faith and belief;
Communicate the dream and form a strong team to realize it, keep going, and commit to the end!!!
